Musical theatre is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of the piece – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

Have you ever danced around the house singing songs from your favorite musical? Do you want to explore musical theatre but not sure where to start? Do you wish there was an outlet where you could worship and praise God with musical theatre?
In Intro to Musical Theatre, students will learn:
How to build a character and tell a story through theatre games, voice and body exercises.
Songs and short dance numbers, with a mixture of traditional musical theatre songs and contemporary Christian songs. If time allows, we will also work on short scenes or monologues (one person scene).
How to build a character and be a storyteller through improvisation, voice and body exercises, and take-home character research assignments.
Basic Musical Theatre Terminology.
Perform in an outreach opportunity.
Students will be assigned songs and dances in class. At-home practice is required.
A 3-ring binder for keeping note paper or note pad and sheet music.
There will be a mandatory outreach opportunity at the end of the session.
